Broadening the scaling of Banana Xanthomonas Wilt (BXW) Management in East and Central Africa (Scaling BXW Management)
Summary
Xanthomonas Wilt (BXW) of banana is a serious disease affecting farmers in East and Central Africa, with yield losses of up to 100%. Over the past years, Single-Diseased Stem Removal (SDSR), which is cutting all visibly diseased stems at soil level immediately after first symptom detection, has been developed as a labour-extensive technology that reduces plant incidence levels to less than 2% within 6 months.

Objectives
Deploy the Scale Single-Diseased Stem Removal (SDSR) for BXW management from the piloting scaling stage (operational environment) to the ultimate scaling stage (application) using a dynamic, integrated scaling framework. SDSR has been successfully piloted and further developed in Burundi, DR Congo, and Uganda and requires research and development investments to move forward.
GOALS
Broadening the scaling of Banana Xanthomonas Wilt (BXW) Management in East and Central Africa
Banana productivity is recovered for 56,861 households in a target area of approximately 28,500 hectares in DR Congo, Burundi, and Uganda, delivering increased food and income by the end of the project.
