Scaling Sweetpotato Triple S, Gender-responsive Options for Quality Planting Material, Higher Yields and Extended Shelf Life for Storage Roots in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Ghana (Scaling Triple S)
Summary
Triple S, a root-based system for conservation and multiplication of planting material, stands for storage in sand and sprouting that allows to increase orange-fleshed sweetpotato production in dry agro-ecologies through the access to timely, quality and sufficient planting material.
Sustainable Development Goals Contribution
Countries
Research Areas
Productive varieties and quality seed
Nutritious food and added value
Improved livelihoods at scale
Objectives

1. Store orange-fleshed sweetpotato over the dry season and produce quality planting material for early planting at household level.

2. Extend availability of vitamin A rich foods for scope countries

3. Increase income and assess the gender responsiveness of different communication approaches to inform scaling strategies.
GOALS
Scaling Sweetpotato Triple S, Gender-responsive Options for Quality Planting Material, Higher Yields and Extended Shelf Life for Storage Roots in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Ghana
By 2022, reach over 80,000 farmers (50% women), with key messages on Triple S while ensuring that the scaling process is inclusive and responds to the different categories of farmers. We anticipate that 10% of those reached will use the technology to increase access to quality planting material for food security and income benefits, and understand how to ensure successful scaling in different contexts with different types of scaling partners.
