Bio

Wanjiku Chiuri, PhD, is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic, Research and Student Affairs at Laikipia University-Kenya. Wanjiku is a social scientist and an expert in Gender Research in various fields including analysis and mainstreaming. She has outstanding experience with rural Africa development and environment issues. As a development scholar, she has spent over 23 years working with rural communities and researchers from across the global on sustainable development. Her 6 years with the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) helped her sharpen her skills on gender and development. She provided the link between scientists and farmers with Linking Farmers to Markets as the flagship. She was among the senior social scientists that tested the suitability of Innovation Platforms in African Agriculture and the use of commodity value chains to address gender issues in the process. She has worked with scientists from 30 national agricultural research institutions in Africa. Wanjiku holds a PhD in Planning and Resources Development and a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies.
