The ‘Building a Sustainable, Integrated Seed System for Cassava in Nigeria’ (BASICS) project is comprised of four components.
Breeder Seed Component
The Breeder’s Seed component of the BASICS project aims at strengthening the Early Generation Seed (EGS) system through a multi-pronged approach.
Processor Led Model
The Processor Led Model (PLM) aims to establish an innovative and viable commercial stem dissemination model in Nigeria that is anchored by industrial cassava processors.
Quality Seed Component
The BASICS Quality Seed Component (QSC) aims to build on and transform the existing cassava seed certification regime of Nigeria.
Village Seed Entrepreneurs Model
Establishes and empowers a network of community-based VSEs who produce and sell certified stems of improved cassava varieties.
