The Food Resilience Through Root and Tuber Crops in Upland and Coastal Communities of Asia-Pacific (FoodSTART+) implemented by the International Potato Center (CIP) hosted the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security-Southeast Asia (CCAFS-SEA) Writeshop on Climate Change, Gender Roles and Adaptation Strategies. This writing workshop was held on 3-5 October 2017. Dr. Thelma Paris, a former gender specialist at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and CCAFS gender advisor, led and organized the writeshop to hasten the publication of a book on gender roles and adaptation strategies in response to climate change: case studies in SEA.

Researchers from International Institute of Rural Reconstruction(IIRR), World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), International Potato Center (CIP), and University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) participated in the intensive three-day writing workshop. The workshop was aimed at improving the current drafts of these researchers and facilitating cross-learning among the contributing writers to the book being drafted.

The book is a response to the agreement during the annual meeting in in Hanoi, Vietnam last December 2016 to include gender dimension in research, planning, and implementation of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) projects. It will serve as a guide for technicians and scientists in conducting research and implementing CSA interventions aimed at improving climate resiliency, food security, and nutrition of communities in Southeast Asia. According to Dr. Paris, the book being developed is set to be published by 2018.
