After setting up the assessment methodology framework, the first step to select the banana research options to be included in the priority assessment was the conduct of a global online expert survey in which a large sample of banana experts (N = 523) from more than 50 countries identified major constraints to banana production and marketing.
In a second step, 34 banana scientists were convened in an expert workshop in Kampala, Uganda. During the four-day workshop, participants reviewed the priority assessment methodology and results of the expert survey, selected research options to be included in the assessment, and worked in groups on the parameters for the calculation of returns to research investment.
